The Amsterdam Battery, established 1787, was one of the major fortifications of Cape Town. It was part of a system of coastal fortifications constructed along Table Bay to defend the city against seaborne aggressors. The battery is not visible today, but it is included here because of plans to excavate it. It is buried near the entrance of the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.
